Perforation of the esophagus in penetrating chest trauma

Introduction: Esophageal perforation is the most serious of the perforations of the digestive system, associated with a high mortality, being inadvertent in many of the cases.
Objective: To describe the treatment and evolution of a patient with perforation of the esophagus associated with penetrating chest trauma.
Clinical report: The case of a 28-year-old adult is presented who, from a penetrating wound in the thorax at the level of the fourth intercostal space and zone I of the neck, where he presented a transfixing injury of the pulmonary vertex, left ventricular injury and perforation esophagus. Serious injuries that were successfully treated. Images of the lesion are shown and a discussion is held about how often esophageal perforations go unnoticed and the conduct to take in the surgical act.
Conclusions: A case with perforation of the esophagus associated with penetrating chest trauma was presented. The case shown did not progress as an inadvertent injury, despite the existence of other chest injuries.
