Abstract

Introduction: Initially, SARS-CoV2 infection had low incidence in the pediatric population. Since the increase in the number of infants and research processes, a clinical disease called multisystem inflammation syndrome was found, which especially affected children and adolescents.

Objective: To characterize the multisystemic inflammation syndrome after SARS-CoV2 infection in the adolescent and pediatric population.

Case report: The first case of multisystemic inflammation syndrome is reported here. A male patient under 21 years of age was diagnosed at the Príncipe de Asturias University Hospital, and he required admission to the Intensive Care Unit. He showed a favorable clinical evolution after starting treatment, according to the recommendations established at that time for the treatment of this disease in the pediatric and adolescent population.

Conclusions: SARS-CoV2 infection equally affects children and adolescents. Although the multisystemic inflammation syndrome associated with SARS-CoV2 infection is included in the differential diagnosis of the main inflammatory conditions of childhood, further studies are necessary to assess the predisposing factors and the pathogenesis of MIS-C in order to prevent it, as it may be possible, and to optimize its treatment.
